Pros and Cons of Atkins Diet
I'm sure we've all heard of the atkins diet. If you haven't it's basically a high protein, low/no carbohydrate diet.
Now there's no question in my mind to whether or not it works. It definitely makes you lose weight, that's for sure. I know of quite a few people who have lost lots of weight using it. But there definitely are some problems with it.
Emphasizing protein is a good thing! But eliminating hundreds of other food that are needed to provide vitamins, minerals, nutrients and fibre is not. Your body needs a variety of foods to stay healthy and even though you may be losing weight on the atkins diet you might be setting yourself up for health problems in the long term.
Another problem with the atkins diet, Is that few people can stick to the limited number of foods that it allows. So they are able to stick to it for a while but they're setting themselves up for failure later on when they snap and dive back into all the foods that they are craving.
You want to introduce more protein into your diet and you want to reduce certain carbohydrates in your diet. But you dont want to rob your body of the nutrition it needs.
